The best types of friendships are those that start over your love for sports and specifically your love for basketball. Coach Marlene Dixon and Coach Kendra Couch met each other one day in a booth at a local pizza shop to discuss opportunities for girls in the Bryan/College Station area to play competitive basketball. By the end of the meeting, they agreed that our area did not offer what our daughters needed.
With excitement, Marlene agreed to let Kendra's daughter play on the young boys teams since that was the best option. But we knew playing with boys was not the ultimate goal. So we began to grow and nurture girls in the grade levels around our daughters, and thus the journey began. Practices, camps, clinics, road trips...all the fun memories!
Marlene and Kendra are former college players and have coached at the college, high school and youth level. In addition to coaching, both ladies have careers in education & are busy moms raising their families. Coach Dixon is the Director of Kinesiology and Sports Management at Texas A&M University. Coach Couch is a Licensed Mental Health Therapist specializing in the treatment of trauma, social/emotional development in children, anxiety and peak athletic performance therapy.
We believe that a youth basketball organization can be both competitive and compassionate. Growing young women in the sport will grow them in life because basketball's ups and downs mimics life.
How do you manage failure? How do you handle stress and pressure? What are you doing to increase your confidence? If your daughter strives to be the best, it will require her to overcome many mental hurdles. We use the phrase adopted by Athletes in Action and coach our athletes to play for "An Audience of One." What does this mean? AO1 helps Christian players remember that even with many audiences around us, friends, family, coaches, social media followers, but ultimately there's only One whose opinion about us really matters. Living for Him, playing for Him, and giving Him all the glory, win or lose, play for an Audience of One. To learn more, watch a video from the AO1 Foundation: https://youtu.be/lYpwoEba-8I
There are so many ways to get involved with our organization.
